attempt to take their own
life and about 10 of them will
succeed.

Here for Life is a charity that
aims to raise awareness about
youth suicide and provide
opportunities for getting involved
in life.

Teams from national footy codes
ARU,NRL and AFL supported Here
For Life in a 6 day
Vodafone Extreme coreporate Challenge
on August 19,2000.

Their challenge was to ride 540 km
across the Simpson desert on mountain
bikes.

Their goal was to raise $1 million

WORLD BREASTFEEDING WEEK
AUGUST 1 - AUG 8 2001

The Breastfeeding Coalition of Tasmania hopes to get 800 breasts or 400 mums in action at the Wrest Point Hotel Casino as part of Breastfest 2001.

This is to be a world record bid said spokeswoman Elizabeth Wilson.

The Tasmanian Breastfest will be competing for the world record with similar events in New South Wales,Queensland and Western Australia.

The aim of BREASTFEST 2001 is to promote the importance of breastfeeding and the acceptability of breastfeeding in public.

JEANS FOR GENES DAY

The money raised at this annual celebrity jeans auction
goes to the Children's Medical Research
Institute, in Sydney's west, to help find the causes of genetic diseases that affect one in twenty children.

The Westmead-based institute researches the causes of
illnesses like spina bifida, cerebral palsy and leukaemia.

Every year the first Friday of August
is Jeans for Genes Day.

This year is the eighth national Jeans for Genes Day.

People around the Australia are asked to don their jeans
and buy a badge or make a donation on Friday.

Over the last seven years Australians have donated more
than $15 million to the cause, and last year alone $3.5
million was raised.

Organisers hope to improve on that figure this year and
raise $4 million.

To raise money for new equipment and facilities for Reece High School which was destroyed by arson in December 2000
many celebrities have donated items for this auction.

The event will be attended by TV Personalities Frankie J Holden and Denise Drysdale.

Items for auction include a football signed by AFL coach Kevin Sheedy
an Inspector Gadget poster signed by Hollywood Star,Matthew Broderick
a 2001 Davis cup team poster signed by Pat rafter and Lleyton Hewitt
an AFl Richmond jumper signed by Matthew Richardson
a st Kilda Tracksuit signed by Darrel Baldock
a signed AFL Melbourne jersey worn by Steven Febey in the Demon's Grand Final appearance 2000
There will also be a signed and framed HOME AND AWAY poster,scripts from ALL SAINTS,WATER RATS and a BLUE HEELERS signed t shirt courtesy of the local media organisations.

raising funds for children with cancer.
