David Foster believes in giving back to the community as a thank you for being able to represent his community at international ,national and the local levels. Being an axeman is in his family blood,he was world champion axeman for the same 11 year period as his father. The same glory is being shared by his brother.

Causes David supports including helping promote Project Greenleaf as a representative of North Forest Products, assisting local Landcare groups with promotion for their projects such as the Campbell Town Township Landcare Group. David grew up and was educared at Campbell Town. David opened the first stage of a river walk along the banks of the Elizabeth River at Campbell Town in 1997. David is especially fond of children's charities,on a trip to Jakarta he saw children begging for food,the memory remaind and on his return to Tasmania he said to his wife"No child is going to beg for food while I'm here". The annual ABC CHRISTMAS GIVING TREE WALK around Tasmania to Hobart sees David helping. He is a popular crowd favourite at each of the towns they pass through with school children eagerly awaiting his arrival. David assists other sports and the Olympic Movement. In 1998 he launched the Olympic Club in Launceston. David Foster is often joined in his charitable quests by Launceston Cricketer ,David Boon. The 2 Davids also willingly offered their famous moustaches to be shaved in a public telethon for another cause. This event also saw the Premier of Tasmania Jim Bacon having his moustache shaved. David Foster has written a book called "THE POWER OF TWO".
