The secret KINGS MEADOWS IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE
has apparently finalised it's visions for the area.
The Launceston City Council has allocated funds for the revitalisation of the area in the current budget ,passed July 1,2002.
The Public Consultation on the revitalisation passed by Council is still to occur.
What exactly is in the Kings Meadows Revitalisation, given that no public consultation has taken place.
NEXT MEETING: ????????????????????????????????????????????

KINGS MEADOWS REVITALISATION PLANS
CLEAN UP LAUNCESTON was invited to attend
the meetings of the Kings Meadows
Improvement Committee to discuss plans for improving the amenity of the
Kings Meadows Shopping Centre,by a Kings Meadows Trader.
Mr Abernethy's office advised Clean Up Launceston on Friday,February 2,that the meeting is to be scheduled Late February2001.Subsequent contact with Mr Abernethy's office revealed that Council had no immediate plans for public consultation on the redevelopment of Kings Meadows and the offer to include Clean Up Launceston in it's consultations was withdrawn.
Certainly on the agenda should be:
DAILY STREET CLEANING
MORE RUBBISH BINS
PUBLIC RECYCLING FACILITIES
TO BE SITED AT ALL LARGE RETAIL
PREMISES IN THE AREA THAT HAVE
BEEN FOUND TO BE CONTRIBUTING
TO THE LITTER PROBLEMS OF THE
AREA.
A PUBLIC TRANSPORT STATION FOR
THE SHOPPER STOPPER BUSES,TAXIS,
COUNTRY BUSES & SPECIAL NEEDS
BUSES.
ESCALATION OF THE RIVULET
REHABILITATION through to
BLAMEY ROAD.
Development of
the old car yard for
car parking .
More frequent bus services,
particularly at weekends,public
holidays and evenings.
With 1 public toilet for every 917 people in Tasmania, one wonders if there are enough public toilets in Launceston open all hours and fully accessible to
the disabled.
36% of Tasmanian toilets are accessible by the disabled.
The public toilet in Kings Meadows should be accessible after hours.
Their should also be safer pedestrian crossings
Maybe multi-functional crossing guards could be employed to assist
those that require physical help crossing the road.
There other duties would include:
stopping traffic,
carrying shopping,
pushing trolleys
returning trolleys to the respective
supermarkets,
giving direction to stores,
providing bus timetable information,
handing out promotional material on occasions
enforce litter infringements
maintaining the crossing and surrounding area in a clean and tidy state.
