LAUNCESTON has some fine sportspeople,many of them are assisted by the TASMANIAN INSTITUTE OF SPORT in the
Launceston suburb of PROSPECT.
The citizens of Launceston always appreciate sporting successes whether at the Olympic Games,Commonwealth Games,World Championships,National Championships,State Championships or a Local Club Championship.
The year 2001 is an exciting year for Tasmanian Football
with it's admission into the National Australian Rules,
on a 12 month trial basis.
FOOTBALL VICTORIA'S Chief Executive Ken Gannon says that
"Tasmania has joined the second best football competition
in Australia and has the chance to enhance that standing"
The new look 16 team VFL competition is now a 2 state competition,which will be strengthened with "TASMANIA's" entry.
