WATER 2
Is there a water shortage?

Are there more effective ways of addressing issues of
water conservation and protecting water quality?

Has the television commercial funded from the water levy been effective?

It needs to be questioned whether the Government Prices Oversight Commission (GPOC)who has been working it's way through government services is really working on behalf of the consumers.

Tell me what you think in my forum.

The 2 part water pricing policy was approved in April 2001
and came into effect from July of the same year.

This policy imposes a charge for infrastructure and separate charge for the volume of water used.

The citizens of Launceston are not happy, and rightly so.

This policy disadvantages low and fixed income earners.

14,800 people of Tasmania have signed a petition to State Parliament calling for the reversal of the system, while at an angry rally in Launceston on Saturday,March 16 the people unaminously supported the resolution which said in part that there should be a reintroduction of the former system of set volume and excess water charges.
