The achievements of women athletes have encouraged participation

in sport generally

 and continue to inspire all.

There have been some extraordinary feats of women,which have inspired girls to participate in sport,including that of American sprinter Wilma Rudolf, winning three gold medals after a childhood  of wearing a leg brace.

The successes at the Olympics from  Australia's only 2 Indigenous women Olympians

Cathy Freeman and Nova Peris-Kneebone has also encouraged other women and girls.

Cathy and Nova both won a medal at the Atlanta Olympics,their achievements are even more remarkable,because Indigenous Women,only make up 1% of the population.
