There are millions of homeless pets, just waiting for someone like you. That's why PETsMART doesn't sell cats and dogs. Through PETsMART Charities, we work with local shelters to help place more than 3,900 pets in loving homes each week. Since 1992, we have found homes for over 806,960 pets, and we'd like to do more. Domestic Pets were affected too by the attack on America,September 11,2001.
PETA led a caampaign in the aftermath of 911
to let animal rescuers and volunteers to get into the
evacuated buildings to save the animals.
They have been without water or food for days .
There was a need for a Task Force to rescue the animals.
Three PETA vehicles left Norfolk, VA and were on the
ground in Manhattan, near the American Express Towers,
manned by PETA's Community Animal Project and
Domestic Animal Investigations and Abuse staff and other
PETA staff,where Volunteers could contact PETA directly .
This terrible tragedy had serious repercussions for the animals as well as the humans.
As a result of the tremendous loss of human lives, many animals were left orphaned or trapped in evacuated buildings .
PETA and other animal protection groups were willing to send trained
rescuers into the buildings to take the animals out, if given the chance.
Waivers of liability would be signed by PETA,to ease the minds
of those who could otherwise be held responsible in the event of any injury or death.
United Animal Nations offers assistance in mobilizing volunteers and rescuing and caring for abandoned animals.
